How do I use Leaven’s Instant Sourdough?
Simply add our instant sourdough culture directly to your flour and water. Calculate the amount of our instant sourdough to use in place of the amount of sourdough starter or baker’s yeast using the calculator above. Then, follow your recipe as you would normally. If you have any questions please contact us at info@leavenfoods.com
Are your products non-GMO?
Yes! Our microbes are carefully cultivated to replicate the natural wild yeast and bacteria found in sourdough, ensuring a truly authentic experience.
Does your product contain allergens?
We rigorously test each batch for allergens like gluten, dairy, and soy, ensuring they contain less than 20 parts per million (ppm). However, please note that the product is processed in a facility that also handles dairy, nuts, and wheat.
What makes Leaven’s Instant Sourdough different from traditional starters?
Our instant sourdough cultures are designed for convenience while maintaining the traditional wild fermentation process. No need to feed or maintain a starter — just mix and bake!
How long do the cultures last once opened?
We recommend using the product within 4 months of opening for optimal performance. Store it in a cool, dry place to preserve the culture’s potency – ideally in the refrigerator or freezer.
Can I use Leaven Instant Sourdough to make other baked goods besides bread?
Yes! Our culture is versatile and can be used in a variety of baked goods, including pancakes, waffles, leavened cookies, bagels, donuts, pizza dough, and more. Experiment to find your perfect recipe!
Do I need to feed the culture after using it in a recipe?
No feeding is required. Our instant culture is a one-time-use formula designed for easy baking with no ongoing maintenance. Use it like you would baker’s yeast.
How does Leaven’s Instant Sourdough compare to instant dry or active dry yeast baker's yeast?
Leaven’s Instant Sourdough is a mix of bacteria and wild yeast which offers a deeper, more complex flavor profile in comparison to baker’s yeast. Baker’s yeast acts predominantly as a leavening agent, whereas Leaven’s Instant Sourdough also contributes beneficial bacteria for a health friendly baked good.
